GCSEs

The 2024-2025 academic year sees our first cohort of GCSE students taking their examinations. In preparation for this, students will undertake mock examinations in September 2024, commencing on Monday 23rd September and finishing on Friday 4th October.

The primary aim of these mock exams is to provide our students with an opportunity to further practice their exam skills in a structured setting. Engaging in these assessments will help them build the necessary writing stamina required for timed conditions, which is crucial for their success in future examinations. Additionally, the mock exams serve as an important tool to support with continued revision, ensuring that the knowledge and skills acquired during Year 10 are consolidated and not forgotten over the summer break.

Supporting Your Child with Revision

We understand that exams can be a challenging time for students, and parental support can make a significant difference. We recommend that students aim to schedule at least one revision session each day. However, it is equally important that they allocate time for relaxation and activities that refresh their minds. Striking a balance between study and downtime will not only enhance their academic performance but also promote their overall well-being. We appreciate your support in helping your child manage their time effectively.

Here are some ways you can assist your child in their revision:

  1. Create a Study Schedule: Help your child to develop a realistic revision timetable that balances study with leisure activities. This can help them manage their time effectively and reduce stress.
  2. Provide a Quiet Study Environment: Where possible, ensure that your child has a quiet, comfortable, and well-lit place to study, free from distractions.
  3. Encourage Regular Breaks: Advise your child to take regular breaks during study sessions to maintain focus and prevent burnout.
  4. Discuss Revision Techniques: Talk to your child about different revision strategies such as summarising notes, using flashcards, or practicing past exam papers.
  5. Stay Positive and Supportive: Encourage your child and recognise their efforts, helping them stay motivated. Positive reinforcement can significantly boost their confidence.
  6. Promote a Healthy Lifestyle: Ensure your child gets adequate sleep, nutritious meals, and regular physical activity, all of which contribute to better concentration and performance.

Below are some documents to support students and parents with preparing for this series of mock exams. This includes information on exam boards, which topics will be assessed, advice on resources that can be used to support with revision, as well as a summary of specific revision tasks that have been set by each department. We strongly encourage students to refer to this document to support them in planning and organising their revision over the summer.

By working together, we can help our students approach these mock exams with confidence and determination, setting a strong foundation for their final examinations in the summer of 2025.
