Silverstone Trip
Our Maths department organised a trip for Year 9 students to the iconic Silverstone Circuit, marking an unforgettable experience filled with adrenaline and learning. The excursion provided an opportunity for our students to delve into the world of motorsports, gaining insights into the technology, history, and the sheer thrill of one of Britain’s most renowned racing venues.
Guided by experts and instructors, students got the opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of activities tailored to ignite their passion for motorsports and delve into the vast array of career opportunities catered around Formula 1.
The students were able to walk on parts of the old track at Silverstone which is around 3 miles long, and some students were lucky enough to witness some cars being raced around the circuit!
Beyond the thrill of the track, the trip also provided valuable educational insights. Bespoke workshops offered a behind-the-scenes look at the intricate designs and materials used to make some of the world’s top race cars, and students learnt about the manufacturing of the drivers race suits and the safety elements built into these.
Silverstone Museum provided some interesting hands-on experiences with an insight into the history of the Silverstone area and allowed students to immerse themselves into a variety of exciting practical activities.
The students were a credit to themselves and to Watling Academy, upholding the school’s values of respect, responsibility and kindness throughout their visit to Silverstone. Well done Year 9!
