At Watling Academy, learning goes beyond the classroom. Throughout their time with us, students have opportunities to take part in a wide range of trips, visits and experiences that bring learning to life, build confidence, and create lasting memories. Our trips reflect our wider curriculum principles, helping students explore Milton Keynes, make connections with STEM and sustainability, and discover future study and career opportunities. From subject-based visits, theatre trips and sporting events to exciting international opportunities, including China, Spain and Berlin. These experiences give students the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge of various curriculum areas while also developing the key components of an effective learner, such as their problem solving, communication and planning.
During the 2025-26 academic year students have had the opportunity to attend a variety of trips. There have been:
- Curriculum opportunities such as attending live music and theatre performances, the Tate Modern gallery, Cambridge Eco Mosque, and participation in both the National Spelling and Translation Bees for Spanish and Mandarin.
- International opportunities such as the Spanish trip to Barcelona, Mandarin Excellence Programme trip to China and History trips to Berlin and Belgium.
- Sporting opportunities such as attending the MK Schools and Bucks Cross Country and Athletics competitions, County Cup football finals, as well as a variety of fixtures and tournaments throughout the year.
- Leadership opportunities such as attending the Human Rights conference and participation in debate competitions.
- Opportunities to attend a range of careers workshops and fairs such as the MK Innovates STEM Festival, Smart City Robotics & STEM Experience and Making Tracks in Construction gala; as well as visits to employers including Sky Studios, Network Rail and Woburn Safari Park.
Each year there will also be our annual trip days. Students will participate in a variety of activities and trips, including visits to popular UK attractions such as Thorpe Park (Y9), Whipsnade Zoo (Y7) and the National Space Centre (Y8). Students may also choose to take part in activities taking place onsite at Watling Academy, such as sports, craft and design and gaming.
