Year 10 Wellbeing Lessons: Financial Decision-Making and Gambling Harm Awareness
This half term, our Year 10 students have been exploring the important topic of financial decision-making in their Wellbeing lessons. The curriculum has included engaging lessons on managing risk, resisting impulses, understanding influences on gambling, navigating debt, and taking informed next steps in their financial journeys.
To extend their understanding, Year 10 students were privileged to receive a thought-provoking talk from the charity Gambling Harm UK. This independent UK charity is led by individuals with lived experience of gambling harm and is dedicated to improving education and awareness through an evidence-based public health approach. Their focus includes fostering discussions on recovery and equipping people with the knowledge to help prevent gambling harm.
A representative from Gambling Harm UK delivered an impactful session, highlighting key issues such as factors that may increase vulnerability to gambling harm, ways to support someone struggling with gambling, and resources for help. They also shared their personal journey with gambling addiction, a story that vividly illustrated the devastating impact of gambling and the importance of safeguarding against it.
Our students were highly engaged, listening attentively to the presenter’s story and absorbing practical strategies to stay safe. The session was both enlightening and empowering, leaving students with valuable insights into the realities of gambling harm and how to make informed decisions about their financial and personal well-being.
We are proud of the thoughtful and mature way in which our Year 10 students approached this topic and are confident that these lessons will have a lasting impact.
