Week 9
I hope everyone enjoyed their half term break. It has been great to welcome students back to school this week.
Year 11s have started their mock exams this week. They have shown an exemplary attitude and we have been impressed by their determination and resilience in an examination situation. We have another week of mocks ahead next week, which will help students feel more prepared for their final GCSE examinations in June. Thank you to families for supporting us and our students during this time, and to our wider school community who have been mindful of the exams taking place this week around the school.
On Thursday evening, a group of students enjoyed an outing to Milton Keynes Theatre, where they attended a live performance of the fantastic musical Mary Poppins. Students were captivated as the production brought the classic tale to life with memorable songs and dazzling performances, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained. It was a memorable experience that not only showcased the magic of live theatre but also offered students a valuable insight into stagecraft and musical storytelling.
November is National Careers Development month, and here at Watling Academy there are many events planned throughout the year to support all students with their careers education. Later this month, students from Years 8 and 10 will be taking part in workshops with the Royal Navy, our Year 12 students continue their weekly enrichment sessions with employers from a range of industries and professions, whilst Year 10 make arrangements for their first work experience placements.
Our website holds a wealth of careers information through our dedicated Careers page, where you can access information about career provision at Watling Academy, including labour market information and careers guidance. Furthermore, our curriculum subject pages offer insights into how each subject relates to potential career paths, alongside details of what students will be learning. We are committed to ensuring that students have access to the right information to help guide them in whatever path they choose.
A huge thank you to the Friends of Watling Academy for another sell-out doughnut sale before half term and to all those who supported the event. It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved and supporting such a worthy cause. A special shoutout to our amazing student volunteers, Terry A, Fome O, Ben B, Elliot A, thank you for giving up your time to help make the sale a success. The event raised over £600 which will be invested back into the school to benefit our students and school community. Thanks again for your support, and keep an eye out for the next delicious event coming soon!

Alongside the fundraising the Friends of Watling Academy do throughout the year, we also raise funds for the school via EasyFundraising. Thank you in advance for your support, all funds raised will be invested in furniture and resources for the new Sixth Form.
Following the ParentMail communication sent before half-term, I would like to remind you that bookings are now open for the Academic Mentoring Afternoon on Thursday 20th November. Please note that school will close at 12:35pm on this day to accommodate the event.
These afternoons serve as a valuable opportunity to meet with your child’s tutor or mentor in person to discuss their academic progress, engagement and wellbeing at school. We strongly encourage students to accompany their parents, as their presence is essential in fostering a sense of shared responsibility and accountability in their educational journey.
That’s all for this week, wishing you an enjoyable weekend.
