British Science Week

Last week we marked British Science Week, a ten day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, with a busy schedule of activities celebrating all things STEM. Students relished the opportunity to try something new, gaining insight into real-world applications of science and potential careers in STEM.

Throughout the week, some of our Year 7 and 8 students took part in workshops afterschool where they learnt the art of magnetic levitation, got hands-on dissecting a heart and conducted some colourful chemistry experiments.

On Thursday 13th March, we were excited to host visitors from Shimadzu, a global leader in analytical and measuring instruments, who delivered engaging, practical workshops to inspire students to explore careers in science. Students had the chance to hone their skills in analytical science to identify the culprit of a simulated crime from a lineup of suspects. Through a series of experiments and process of elimination they worked to solve the mystery whilst gaining practical experience and insight into this exciting field.
