This week the festive season has kicked into swing at Watling.
We were pleased this week to receive the results of the Milton Keynes Schools Cross Country Competition, which took place last week – Watling finished a very respectable 2nd. There were many individual successes on the day, and I was particularly proud to be told by a member of staff from another school that Watling students performed well and looked an impressive team in their kit – well done and thank you to everyone involved.
On Wednesday, our Friends of Watling Academy team ran a successful Curry & Quiz Night, bringing our community together for a memorable event. The evening was full of laughter and competitive spirit with tables battling it out to be crowned quiz champions and the food was delicious. Thank you to everyone who came along on the evening and congratulations to ‘Hoof Hearted’ who won the quiz. Creating these events at Watling is incredibly important to our school community, and not an easy task for the FoWA team. I’d like to thank the team for providing such a fun event, we are already looking forward to hosting similar events in the future.
On Thursday, we celebrated our Arts Winter Showcase, where students from all year groups came together to display the result of their hard work and talents. From captivating drama performances and harmonious choir renditions to impressive orchestra pieces, energetic cheerleading routines, and outstanding backstage contributions, the evening was a true testament to their dedication and creativity. We are incredibly proud of every student who played a part in delivering such a joyful event. Our staff have dedicated a huge amount of time to prepare for this event and I’d like to thank them for their efforts. Thank you goes out to all the parents and carers who attended and supported their children—it means so much to them and to us. Events like this not only highlight the incredible talent within our school but also play a significant role in boosting the confidence of our students.
On Friday, our Year 11 Religious Education students embarked on an inspiring trip to St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The visit provided a unique opportunity to explore the rich history, architecture, and spiritual significance of one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks. Students were captivated by the breath-taking dome, intricate mosaics, and the awe-inspiring atmosphere of the cathedral. The tour deepened their understanding of Christianity’s influence on art, culture, and society, and they were able to connect classroom learning to a real-world setting. Reflecting on themes of faith, community, and resilience, the trip was not only educational but also a chance for personal growth and contemplation.
Finally, we’re looking forward to welcoming our Year 11 students and their families to our Sixth Form Open Evening next week. If you’re a parent/carer of a current Watling Year 11 student and haven’t responded as yet please check your ParentMail for the QR code to sign up.
Wishing you all a restful weekend.
