Week 14

As we move into the final week of our first term of this academic year, I want to thank all members of our community for their support. During this term, we have grown again to just over 1500 students, welcomed another cohort of students into Year 7, a new cohort of GCSE students into Year 10 and formally launched our Sixth Form. It has been an incredibly busy term, and I continue to be proud of the students and staff at Watling who represent their school with pride every day. Working in a large, busy school such as Watling is a rewarding experience. The support of our wider community of parents and carers is crucial, and I am grateful for the support that we receive on daily basis.

We value open and constructive communication with all our families as it plays a crucial role in supporting the success and well-being of our students. I am therefore disappointed to address instances of some inappropriate and aggressive communication directed towards staff. We understand that issues can arise, and we are always committed to working collaboratively to resolve concerns. However, it is important to maintain a respectful and courteous dialogue. Aggressive or rude behaviour undermines this partnership and creates a challenging environment for our staff, who work tirelessly to provide the best education and care for your children. I ask for your support in ensuring all interactions remain respectful and solution-focused. Together, we can maintain a positive and supportive school community.

Yesterday was our Academic Mentoring Afternoon where parents and carers came to meet with Tutors to discuss students’ progress and how they have settled into the new academic year.  We had a good turnout and it was lovely to see such positive interactions with tutors across the afternoon.

Today we have celebrated Festive Jumper Day, there were a colourful array of jumpers on display and we thank all those who made donations to Save the Children via ParentMail.  The window for donations will be open until Monday morning should you still wish to contribute.

Whilst we have had a slightly different day today, I must remind all families and students of our normal uniform expectations for students. Over the last few weeks, I have noted an increase in students wearing black trousers or even leggings to school. Our uniform clearly states trousers should be grey and leggings are not allowed to be worn at any time, this includes trousers that are tight to the leg. Wearing uniform correctly and with pride is a key part of demonstrating our key values, and is a non-negotiable for all students. Please support the Academy and our staff to ensure that students are coming to school dressed appropriately.

Finally, just a gentle reminder that Thursday next week, 19th December is our last day of term and school will be closed on Friday 20th December.
