Our competitive sports calendar has been extremely busy this week with a huge 12 fixtures over 3 days!

Our Badminton fixtures against Hazeley were extremely competitive, with both Watling and Hazeley coming away with 3 victories each.  Particular congratulations has to go to the U14 Girls team who did not drop a game with an incredible 7-0 win and to Hayden, the overall player of the matches.

Netball

In Netball, the Year 10 team faced tough opposition against Oakgrove but were determined and made the game a very close contest, player of the match went to Amelia and we know the girls will bounce back in their next game against Stantonbury.  We have won all our other Netball fixtures this week, all of which were against St Pauls. Year 9 won with an impressive 16-2 scoreline, and Felicity was awarded player of the match for her outstanding contribution to the game.  Year 8 faced a tight game, however Watling were victorious with a great start to their year with a 5-2 win.  The stand out team however had to be the Year 7s, for a team that has never played a competitive game together, they shone brightly as they emphatically won 14-0, not conceding a single point!

Year 7 Netball vs St Pauls: 14-0 Win

Year 8 Netball vs St Pauls: 5-2 Win

Football

Finally, onto Football, where our Year 9 girls took on St Pauls.  After just falling short in the league final last year, the team were eager to kick off their school football season with a win, and that they did! The scoreline was 2-0 at half time due to some great saves from Orla and fantastic whole team effort, the girls turned it up a gear to gain a well-deserved 7-0 victory. Player of the match went to Jess for an outstanding defensive display. Huge congratulations to all those involved in our sporting fixtures this week, it is clear that their enthusiasm, respect for each other and hard work is paying off.  We also thank parents/carers for their continued support to make students available for after school fixtures and are in full Watling Academy kit.
